Background
Optimal Satcom, Inc. was formed on November 1, 2002 as the result of an employee-led spin-off from Lockheed Martin Corporation's Management and Data Systems business unit, and was formerly part of COMSAT Laboratories.
The founding members of Optimal Satcom, Inc. are highly experienced and qualified individuals who, prior to formation of the new company, managed the software products business within Lockheed Martin in various capacities - technical management, development team management, product management, and business development. They have also held various management responsibilities for a number of major software development projects within Lockheed Martin, all related to satellite communications.
Products
Optimal Satcom, Inc. has undertaken responsibility for the "Advanced Communications Planning Tools" software product business, which includes development and support for a full line of software products, some of which are well known and established in the SATCOM industry.
Optimal Satcom's line of software products consists of a set of mature products with an established customer base - they include COMPLAN, COMSAT STAR Suite (ACP, Link, PAP, Calculators), SSDB, SSDM, and CIA. Also included are some new products under development - SatCenter (with MeasCenter and TeleCenter extensions). The target market segment for Optimal Satcom's products includes: Satellite Operators, Satellite-Based Service Providers, and Satellite Capacity Users. Most of these products reside at the high end with regard to technical sophistication, and breadth and depth of functions, and have an established "top-of-the-line" reputation in the industry. The products also have the unique feature of being completely integrated with each other, and capable of providing an enterprise solution when used together, or individually targeted to perform specific functions.
Optimal Satcom will also offer technical consulting and training in key areas of satellite communications, in addition to licensing and support for the software products. Optimal Satcom will seek to partner with larger system integrators and Government contractors to strategically pursue large system and software development contracts.
